ZB Therapy provides private therapy support for children and young people aged 5-25. Support is available to help a range of emotional, social and mental wellbeing needs, in addition to parent support sessions and adult counselling.
As children and young people may struggle to put emotions into words, ZB Therapy uses an integrative, child-centred approach, giving children space to talk, play or create whilst gently being guided to explore their inner thoughts and feelings, work through issues and develop coping skills. This approach means that therapy is non-pressured and flexible to individual needs. Whether it’s help for anxiety, emotions, low self-esteem, family difficulties or somewhere to offload during a difficult time, ZB Therapy offers a safe, non-judgmental space where children are valued, empowered and gently supported to take steps towards living happier and more fulfilled lives.
I'm Zoe, a qualified, experienced therapist specialising in counselling for children and young people. I work from my private therapy room in PE4 which has been thoughtfully designed with children in mind.
My journey into counselling began in 2008 as a primary school learning mentor where I supported children aged 4-11 to overcome barriers to learning. This role sparked a lifelong passion for wanting to help children and understand how they think, feel and behave. I believe that behaviour is communication, and often a sign that someone is struggling. Responding to behaviour with curiosity and an open mind can help us to empathise and explore what else might be going on for someone, and especially children, who may lack the words or ability verbalise their wants and needs.
Since 2008 I have progressed from a teaching assistant qualification to a foundation degree, a degree in Education Studies, and in 2023, a postgraduate diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. During my career I have worked across education, voluntary and mental health settings and have seen the gaps in services for children and families, particularly in mental health. This inspired me to create ZB Therapy in 2023, a private counselling service designed to meet the needs of children, young people and their families in Peterborough, offering personalised, professional and high standards of care.
Outside of my professional work, I am a mum of three children, which gives me personal insight into the challenges families and parents face. I provide holistic support that considers the child, the parent and the family as a whole.
Talking to someone outside of the family home can be daunting, especially for children. I know it's hard seeing your child struggle and how important it is to find the right help. My main priority is to help children feel safe, respected and comfortable in the therapeutic relationship.
I offer a free initial phone-call where we will briefly discuss your concerns, followed by a no obligation, face to face pre-assessment session where I meet parent and child together. If we decide following the assessment that we’re all happy to work together we will look to arrange weekly sessions at a mutually agreed time and day. Sessions are usually held in my therapy room, but I will consider online and school-based sessions, subject to arrangement and location.
I offer short term (6 sessions) and open-ended support, with regular parent reviews. This ensures we are working towards shared outcomes and that the therapy is continuing to meet the child or young person’s needs.
Children, young people and their families seek support for a wide range of needs. Some of the more common issues I work with include:
School-related stress, bullying or peer pressure
Confidence, self-esteem or identity concerns
Anger and emotional regulation challenges
Coping with transitions, change or difficult life events
Neurodivergence and school attendance issues
Extensive experience of working with parents and families and in schools
Experience working with looked after children
Level 3 safeguarding trained, insured and enhanced DBS checked
Additional training in trauma informed practice & Bereavement support
I work term time and follow Peterborough City Council term dates. Most sessions take place during the school day and are 50 minutes in length.
