ZB Therapy is a private therapy service for children and young people aged 5-25 in Werrington, Peterborough. Like adults, children and young people can struggle with mental health, feel low and find it hard to cope at times. Family or school issues, stress, trauma, learning needs or other life events can all impact a child's mood and behaviour but they may be unable to tell us what's wrong. As a parent it can be hard seeing your child struggle and you may be feeling lost on how to help.
Using talking, play and creative therapies, ZB Therapy helps children and young people work through difficult issues, manage thoughts and feelings and safely process trauma or complex feelings. Support is available to help a range of emotional, social and mental wellbeing needs including SEND, as well as parent support sessions and adult counselling. With over 17 years experience supporting children and families, ZB Therapy offers professional and individualised care.
As children and young people may struggle to put emotions and experiences into words, ZB Therapy uses a non-pressured, child-centred approach where children have space to talk, play or create, exploring thoughts and feelings in ways that make sense to them and flexible to their needs. Whether it’s help for anxiety, behaviour, low self-esteem or a safe space for children or parents to talk, ZB Therapy considers the needs of the whole child and family, where people are valued, empowered and gently guided towards healing and improved mental wellbeing.
I'm Zoe, an experienced therapist specialising in counselling for children and young people. I run ZB Therapy from my private therapy room at home, which has been carefully designed with children's needs in mind.
My journey into this profession began in 2008 as a primary school learning mentor where for 10 years I helped children overcome barriers to learning. This role sparked a passion for wanting to help children and to understand how they think, feel and behave. I believe that behaviour is communication and responding with curiosity and an open mind helps us to empathise and explore what else might be going on for children, who may lack words to verbalise their feelings, wants and needs.
Since 2008 I have progressed from a teaching assistant qualification to a foundation degree, a degree in Education Studies and in 2023, a Masters of Science where I qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. I have worked across education, voluntary and mental health settings and have seen the gaps in services for children and families, particularly in mental health. This inspired me to create ZB Therapy in 2023, a counselling service designed to meet the unique needs of children and young people.
As am a mum of three, I bring my own lived experiences into my work and an increased understanding and empathy of the challenges facing children and families. My holistic approach considers the child as a whole, ensuring the best outcomes in therapy and beyond.
Talking to someone outside of the family home might feel daunting for some children. In the first few sessions my priority is to help children feel safe and comfortable within the therapy space. Like any relationship, building trust and safety is key to successful communication and I work at the child's pace to understand them, their needs and what they want to achieve from therapy.
As a first step, I offer a free initial phone-call to parents where we will briefly discuss your concerns, followed by a face to face pre-assessment where I meet parent and child together. If we decide following the assessment that we’re all happy to work together we will arrange weekly sessions. Sessions are held in my therapy room in Werrington but I will consider online or school-based sessions, subject to arrangement and the child's needs.
I offer short term (6 sessions) and long term support, with regular parent reviews. This ensures we are working towards shared outcomes and that the therapy is continuing to meet the child or young person’s needs.
Children, young people and their families seek counselling support for a wide range of needs. Some of the more common issues I work with include:
School-related stress, bullying or peer pressure
